Evolution Studios have taken the racing genre to the next level with its MotorStorm, the most brutal off-road racing event designed for PlayStation 3 where the goal is to win at all costs. Putting sheer fun to this genre - be prepared to be rewarded this Christmas with MotorStorm’s new sequel that has the making of a hit, with four-player split-screen. Huzzah!

Getting back to the original game that left many jaws to hit the floor, with its seriously good looking game has no tacked storyline to speak of. All you have to do is to choose your own vehicle from seven vehicle types, from high-flying dirt bikes to monster trucks, powerful big rigs to tiny bikes, and race in a gruesome, muddy race, creating some serious vehicular chaos. The U.S. edition takes the race online, allowing twelve people to compete in intense head-to-head off-road racing. You can challenge the competition over voice chat and smash them and manage to throw spectacular Hollywood-style superb crashes, excellent lighting, destroying anything that gets in your way in a no-holds barred sprint to the finish. You can give surviving a try in its real-time deforming terrain which literally gets torn up with each passing vehicle, causing each lap to be different. The advanced particle effects are simply amazing. You’ll notice more and more debris and muck accumulate on each vehicle as you race and will find tires tracks stay on the tracks for the duration of the game. To say MotorStorm is just “fun” is a huge understatement. Part of reason why this game is challenging is the combination of smartly designed courses and complex Artificial Intelligence opponents that can stimulate human trails, like showing off, attacking, taunting, and doing whatever it takes to win.

The single-player racing holds up too, jam-packed with spectacular crashes, a rock-filled soundtrack and night racing that works surprisingly well without headlights. Not enough racing maps and too few in-game options mar the game's overall outlook but in spite of these blemishes—getting dirty never felt this good. There's no denying that MotorStorm is a visual triumph. The game's suicidal gameplay, opulent presentation and realistic graphics offer a tantalizing glimpse of what the PS3 may be able capable of down the line. MotorStorm is a must-buy for any PlayStation 3 owner – even if it’s only for a weekend rental.
