A BioWare title, Mass Effect, was one of the hotly anticipated games released last year. Developed for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows, this science fiction role-playing game gave Electronic Arts (ELTRS) new strength in genres in which it has traditionally been weak, notably action, adventure, and role-playing games.

The commercially and critically acclaimed developer of ‘Jade Empire’ and ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ did it again with Mass Effect. The game delivers an immersive, story-driven experience coupled with awe-inspiring visuals, delivered exclusively to the Xbox 360.

The story-line of Mass Effect is one of its best yet. Set two hundred years in the future in an epic universe; Mass Effect places gamers in a vast galactic community in danger of being conquered by a legendary agent gone rogue.

Combined with an exciting and unique combat mechanic and powerful storyline, Mass Effect draws you into a tense, politically charged universe, filled it with a bunch of interesting, multifaceted characters. Featuring a real-time, squad-based, tactical combat system, this spectacular new vision from legendary developers BioWare, challenges players to lead a squad of freedom fighters as they struggle against threatening armies to restore peace in the land.

Taking full advantage of Xbox 360, Mass Effect provides players with photo-realistic high definition graphics, amazingly realistic characters, branching dialogue with A.I. responses, and a massive universe to explore. Its dialogue system allows players to engage in hyper-realistic conversation with computer-generated characters and keeps them constantly engaged in their missions.

Mass Effect is the first in a trilogy of games with an overarching story, where the real conflict between organic beings and artificial intelligence comes to life in startling clarity. The game created additional buzz this year by offering a $5 downloadable episode that contained additional planets for players to explore.

Despite a bunch of annoying interface issues, gamers will be able to look past them and enjoy Mass Effect for what it is - a terrific role-playing game with great production values, fun and exciting action.
